KUALA TRENGGANU - MALAYSIA

In July 1978 Colin and Julia and their four children arrived in Malaysia. In September of that year they opened Lifeline Assembly in Kuala Trengganu. Last week Colin had the joy of attending the 30th anniversary celebration. It was a real thrill to see 150 people sit down for a meal and a spiritual celebration. It also became a time of witness because the restaurant was also being used by the Malaysian Chinese Association, a political party which is part of the ruling coalition. They were our captive audience as we sang praises to Jesus.

The prayers of one lady, Daisy Issacs, were a vital component in the opening of the church. On the day Colin first arrived in town she was fasting and praying that God would send someone to pioneer a church.

The celebration was conducted by Pastor Michael Lau who, with his wife Yohana, has done a tremendous work with the Chinese language congregation.
The English congregation, which is currently without a pastor, is led by Dr Cheryan who has a real shepherd's heart.
It was wonderful to see the participation of the youth from the church. Many young people have moved on from Lifeline and are now serving God in other churches, lots of them in Kuala Lumpur.

Some students have come in the other direction and are studying in Kuala Trengganu. Their singing in three languages, English, Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia was thrilling.

One of the highlights of the evening was the participation of the "Evergreens". Their joy was contagious.

There was exceptional singing, first of all from Nadine, one of the home grown youth who, besides being a very busy doctor in hospital in Kemaman, leads worship in Lifeline.

And from Joanne, a PK (pastor's kid) from Ipoh.

But, of course, no celebration in Malaysia would be complete without the most important guest of all, the food. 150 people went home very happy.

The School of Acts, Indonesia

From 8-12 September I taught in the School of Acts in Semarang, Indonesia. There were 120 students in the morning sessions where I taught on "Pastoral Care" and 200 students in the evening sessions when my topic was "Getting Ready for the Wedding" from Rev.19:7.

The morning sessions, where the students are drawn from all regions of Indonesia, took place in a Christian prayer retreat called Getsemani.

TEACHING IN THE EVENING SESSION

In the evenings the location was the Holy Stadium of Gereja Injil Kerajaan (Gospel of the Kingdom Church). This is a vibrant church with attendances of 6-7,000 in each of its three services, one on Saturday evening and two on Sunday. The church has a Christian school with 2,000 students, a daily outreach to 3,500 street kids, giving them food and education, and a team of 20 who reach out to homosexuals and transvestites, among many other activities.

The students, both morning and evening, were so hungry for the word they just drew it out of me, making it so easy to teach. What a privilege - and heaven to follow.

Still on the move

Yesterday, 18th August I arrived back from Kenya. After a bit of a scare with my suitcase, which was still in Cairo when I was in Nairobi, the missions visit there was very fruitful. On Sunday 10th August I ministered in The Missions Outreach Church in Kibera, which they claim is the largest slum in the world with 1.3 million people living there. It was also the place where most people were slaughtered during the post election violence last year. It was very humbling to see the great work the pastor, Nicholas Mulea is doing there, with a school for over 350 children and programmes for feeding the poor etc.

On Monday, 11th August we travelled on to Mtito where I spoke to a group of local pastors who had waited patiently for over four hours because we were delayed on the way.

On Tuesday, 12th August we went on to Voi (spending a few hours in the Safari Park on the way) for the Holy Ghost Fire Conference, where the theme was “living above the level of mediocrity”. The whole conference, from Wednesday to Sunday, was a real blessing, with vibrant Kenyan worship and ministry of the word from myself, John Oakley, Stephen Tee from Malaysia and several Kenyan brothers and sisters.

Our future schedule looks like this:

Thursday 21st August Julia and I fly to Houston, Texas.

Sunday 24th preach at
Centro de Resauracion Integral church.
Wednesday 27th preach in Magnolia, Texas
Sunday 31st preach at Word of God Fellowship, Rosenberg, Texas
Wednesday 3rd September preach at Equippers Outreach Fellowship in Weimar, Tx
Friday 5th September fly home to London.

Saturday 6th September Julia goes home to Wales, I fly to Kuala Lumpur, arriving on Sunday 7th and then fly on to Jakarta and from there to Semarang, Indonesia where I will be teaching in the School of Acts from Monday 8th to Friday 12th.

On Saturday 13th September I fly back to Malaysia and that evening I will preach at the Tamil service in Harvest Christian Assembly.
Sunday 14th preach at Harvest Christian Assembly.

Thursday and Friday 18th and 19th September will be very special. I will be attending the 30th anniversary of Lifeline AOG which Julia and I planted when we arrived as missionaries to Malaysia in 1978.

Sunday, 21st September preach at Grace Assembly in Shah Alam.
Sunday 28th September preach at Glory Gospel Mission in Bahau.
That same evening attend the graduation ceremony at Asia Pacific Seminary.
Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October preach in three services in Full Gospel Assembly, Kuala Lumpur.

Tuesday 7th October fly home to UK and collapse.

As you can see, things are accelerating as I approach my 65th birthday in December. I thank God for the health and strength he gives Julia and me. Please pray it will continue. Pray that we will be in the right place, at the right time, with the right word.

Pray also that the financial needs for these missions will be met.

We had a wonderful farewell weekend at Aberaman Pentecostal Church. On Saturday Rae Galloway from Cardiff preached at the afternoon service. This was followed by a humorous audio-visual presentation entitled "mockumentary", and a wonderful meal. On Saturday evening many friends from local churches came along to hear Rae preach and give us a good send off.

On Sunday morning the church gave tributes via Arthur, who leads the Tuesday prayer meeting, Ian, who leads the youth ministry, Kath who heads up evangelism, and Phil, one of the elders. They presented us flowers, a digital photo frame, and a cheque to help us on our way. Rae preached in both Sunday services. Sunday evening was our final service - the end of a wonderful five years of ministry and fellowship. It was not easy to say goodbye to such a wonderful bunch of people.

The next few weeks will be spent visiting churches in the UK to raise financial support. If you feel the Lord is prompting you to support us please contact us by email: colhurt@yahoo.com.

Please pray for us.

Chennai

On Friday, 9th May we arrived in Chennai. The ministry has been exciting. On Sunday, 11th I preached in the morning at Full Gospel Tabernacle, an outreach from FGT in Malaysia. This work has been going for only one month and it was a privilege to minister to this new congregation and encourage the pastor, Francis, and his wife, Kala. Kala & Francis

New congregation of FGT

On the Sunday evening I preached at the English language service of Harvest Christian Assembly. Very few people are aware that India has the largest English speaking population in the world, 355 million - more
than the USA.

From Monday to Friday I am teaching in the Harvest Training Institute on the topics of Spiritual Gifts and the Early Church. The potential in this school is great. HTI is part of the ministry of Harvest Apostolic Ministries which has already planted 39 churches in Bihar and 16 churches in Andhra (two of the most unreached states of India), besides the six churches they have in Chennai itself. We count it a real privilege to work along with pastor Kumar and his wife Jessie who head up this ministry.

Jessie

On Tuesday evening I preached the gospel at the Miracle Rally of Harvest Christian Assembly. 80% of those present were non-Christians, seeking Jesus for miracles in their lives.

Thank you to all those who pray and give to make our ministry to these people possible.

No grass growing

Well, the Malaysian churches never allow the grass to grow beneath our feet and this trip is no exception. We arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday morning I taught three hours of seminars (to over 200 people) on the topic of Prayer and Spiritual Warfare.

After lunch with the pastor, Dr Chew, (see photo below) I went off to central KL to collect the car we have been loaned.

Pastor Chew

At night I taught another two hours of seminars, and a further two hours on Friday night. The SIB church have two "Sunday" services - one on Saturday night and the second on Sunday morning. I preached to more than a thousand people in each service and the response to the word was tremendous as many people came forward for prayer.

Communion

Ministry

On Wednesday night I will be preaching in St Mary's Anglican cathedral in Kuala Lumpur. On Friday we fly to Chennai (formerly Madras) in India for some more preaching and teaching. We will keep you posted.

Malaysia

We arrived safely in Malaysia after a long journey from Wales, including a six hour stopover in Abu Dhabi. Tomorrow (Thursday 1st May) I start teaching seminars at 9am on the topic of Spiritual Warfare, at the SIB church - one of the fastest growing churches in Malaysia. I will be teaching one session of three hours on Thursday morning, another of two hours on Thursday evening, and another two hour session on Friday evening. I will also be preaching in the SIB services on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. We greatly value your prayers for this busy schedule. Pray that many believers will be brought to greater spiritual victory.

Still running

The Malaysia trip was amazing. On Saturday 15 March we had a great crowd at the dedication of the new building for Full Gospel Tabernacle, Kuala Lumpur. Julia and I have been friends with the lady pastor, Cheng Yoke Poh, for almost thirty years and it was great to see the fruit she is harvesting from her ministry.

On Sunday 16 March I preached to over 1,000 in Full Gospel Tabernacle central church in Subang Jaya. Many came forward for prayer during the appeal.

In the evening I ministered to about 15 people, several from African nations, in Kuchai Christian Centre. A real contrast in the numbers, but the presence of God was real in both places.

From Monday till Friday I taught in Tung Ling (that means "mountain in the east") Seminary on the topics of Prayer & Fasting and New Testament Survey. It was wonderful to have students hungry for God's word. Many from this School of Ministry will go on to serve God effectively. What a privilege to have input into their lives!!

Then came the dash. After the final morning session on Friday I had to drive to Kuala Lumpur to return the car I had borrowed. I got back to the apartment just in time to finish packing before being driven to the airport for my flight to Heathrow via Abu Dhabi. From Heathrow (it was now Saturday) I got the tube to King's Cross and then the train to Doncaster in Yorkshire. There I was met by my granddaughter, Charlotte and was driven at high speed (she always drives like that) to my daughter, Andrea's house. After lunch with some of the family, Julia (she had driven from Wales that morning) and I checked into a hotel in Doncaster and, after a brief rest, drove to Rotherham where I preached on Saturday night and two Sunday services at the Station Road church Easter convention. The God who was powerfully present in Malaysia was greatly with us in Rotherham. He is still touching and transforming lives.

On Tuesday night, 25 March, I was privileged to preach for my pastor, John Oakley, in his church in Dinnington, near Sheffield. Significantly, this small church gave a generous gift towards my trip to Kenya in August, and more significantly, became the first church to commit to supporting us when we go back into full time missions in June.

Since getting back home to Wales, julia and I have been flat out preparing for our approaching launch back into missions. There are many details to pray through. We really value the prayers of all our frinds.

Friday, March 14, 2008

Colin arrived in Malaysia today (Friday 14th) after an uneventful journey from Heathrow via Abu Dhabi. Julia stayed home to hold the fort. I will be preaching at the dedication of a new church building in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, then at two different churches on Sunday. On Monday I will be teaching for a week in Tung Ling Seminary on Prayer and Fasting and New Testament Survey. I will also meet up with some key people in planning our move back into missions in June.
After teaching in Tung Ling on Friday I will fly straight back to UK and get a train to Sheffield where Julia will meet me and take me to Rotherham for the Easter Convention at Station Road AOG.
Your prayers are invaluable to us both in this busy schedule. Pray also that plans for the future will fall into place as we seek God's purpose.

Wednesday, February 06, 2008

As we are praying it's beginning to take shape. The plan at the moment is that we would spend five months in Asia - based in Malaysia, five months in US so we can work down into Latin America, and two months at home over the Christmas period. This is still fluid and subject to change as we hear more from the Lord.

Until he comes.

Monday, January 28, 2008

Well, here we go again.

After June 8th Julia and I will be leaving the pastorate of the church in Aberaman, South Wales, to go back into full time missions. Our ministry will be itinerant to Asia, Latin America and Africa.

Watch this space for further details.
